Are you willing to sell your own vote for 500 pesos, is that your worth? In the past few years of government, there have been a lot of vote-buying issues involving different aspects of politicians and candidates. Most of them were high-profile, so they always think that they can buy anyone for their positions.

It is unimaginable that, despite being against the law, this practice is so widespread that it has become a culture of expectations, both on the part of the candidates (to give) and the people (to receive). This has got to be the most violated election rule of all time.

People may not realize that every time they sell their votes, they are letting this type of rotten government persist. Yes, the money can help people meet their financial needs, but they are unsure if the politicians they elect have good intentions and goals for the community, especially given the number of politicians who abuse their power. Let us no longer tolerate this shady and deceitful system.

If vote buying is involved and it has been done by someone, then being democratic doesn’t make sense. We need to be knowledgeable enough and learn from our past governance so we can implement a good leader for our future.

How can a politician help to maintain peace and take proper action if they themselves cannot follow a simple rule? Politicians should protect the people, not try to control them with their palms, trying to use poverty to their own benefit. Our future was in our hands.
