The 40 approved sports are athletics, aquatics, badminton, basketball (5x5, 3x3), boxing, billiards, cycling (road, mountain), canoe and rowing, chess, dance sports, fencing, football, golf, gymnastics (aerobic, artistic), hockey (including indoor) , judo, karate, Muay, petanque, sailing, Sepak Takraw, soft tennis, tennis, table tennis, taekwondo, Triathlon (including duathlon and aquathlon), volleyball, wrestling, weightlifting, Wushu, Arnis, bodybuilding, E-sports, floorball, Jiujitsu, Jetski, kickboxing, Kun Bokator, Vovinam, and Martial Arts Korea.

During the opening ceremony of the SEA Games Federation (SEAGF)  on Sunday, April 11, 2022, the Cambodian SEA Games Organizing Committee (CAMSOC) president Gen. Tea Banh, alongside the Defense Minister of Cambodia said that they are prepared to host the biennial sports event. "Cambodia has waited for 64 years to be able to host the SEA Games 2023, and we are committed to ensuring that our hosting of this regional multi-sport event will be successful,"  he said.
